Palimpsest is a series of digital photographs that explores the connectedness of stillness, familial intimacy, and ancestral haunts. Taken in Fuzhou, my hometown, these images capture visits to several homes, a cemetery, and gravemound that the paternal side of my family has occupied at some point. As I try to retrace my ancestors' migratory steps, both within and beyond their lifetimes, the palimpsest nature of these overlapping spaces begin to emerge, along with a distinctive rural-to-urban aesthetics, as well as moments of shared vulnerability.
